The Earthshot Prize
In partnership with The Earthshot Prize that took place in Cape Town on 6 November, 2024, Crtve Development, together with Tribe Nation and award winning photographer, Tatenda Chidora, presented an exhibition showcasing photography from across the continent. Featuring past Earthshot Prize finalists, the exhibition celebrated 15 impactful solutions for environmentalism. Displayed along Cape Town’s promenade seawall, each image revealed a unique solution paired with a deeply human story, while QR codes under each photo allowed visitors to explore short videos for a closer look at each innovation.
Open Planet
Open Planet is a visual library designed to elevate storytelling with powerful footage. Partnering with Wellcome, Open Planet captured scenes across South Africa, spotlighting the intersections of climate change and public health. As a storytelling partner, Crtve Development worked with creatives to harness this rich footage and produce impactful stories. We supported five African creatives in crafting short films, set to be screened at various events, as well as in schools and public libraries.
Honeywell
In honour of Earth Month 2024, we teamed up with Honeywell to bring a series of interactive workshops to South African schools and Honeywell offices. Together, we reached dozens of young learners and professionals, equipping them with powerful skills to turn climate advocacy into action. Using creativity, social media, and gamification, we showed how environmental awareness can be engaging, urgent, and accessible. With these new tools, they’re ready to make climate change and development relatable to their friends, families, and communities.
African Climate Summit Creative Campaigning Workshop
Crtve Development hosted a three-day workshop on the sidelines of the African Climate Summit (ACS), bringing together Africa’s foremost young climate leaders, activists, and creatives committed to the intersection of storytelling and advocacy. We collaborated with key strategic partners, including the British Council, Rise Movement, and the Mastercard Foundation, to capacitate participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to harness the power of media, technology, and the arts in climate advocacy. We created a space where participants could engage in thought-provoking discussions, networking opportunities, and dynamic workshopping sessions, with the ultimate goal of creating an inclusive opportunity for individuals and organisations who may not have otherwise had access to meaningfully participate in ACS.
Mastercard Foundation Green Jobs Roundtable
Following our announcement during African Climate Week 2023 to mobilise 1 million green jobs for African youth by 2030, Crtve Development participated in Mastercard Foundation’s Green Jobs Roundtable Series: Youth Voices Paving the Way, where our Co-Founder and CIO, Nolo Mokoena, shared expert insights on the future of work in Africa. The discussion brought together young African leaders to explore topics like climate-smart solutions for the future of work, investments needed for a green economy, essential skills for youth, and enabling policies for climate action.
Ford Foundation’s “The Convening”
In June 2024, Crtve Development proudly curated the Ford Foundation’s landmark event, “The Convening” – an inspiring three-day gathering of 265 Ford Foundation grantees from across Africa, reflecting on 30 years of democracy and envisioning what lies ahead. Our curation brought people together for deep collaboration and sparked fresh creative connections. Designed with intention, each part of the program focused on creating moments of collective inspiration. Through every creative detail, we opened space for new perspectives and meaningful exchange, setting the stage for a powerful, shared experience.
African Climate Summit: A Night With CD
We hosted a high-level event and exhibition on the eve of the Africa Climate Summit (ACS) 2023, aiming to raise awareness of locally-led climate adaptation and green job opportunities in Africa. The event gathered stakeholders from government, business, philanthropy, and civil society to explore innovative solutions for creating dignified green jobs for African youth. To deepen discussions, a fireside conversation featured prominent African voices, including Mariam Allam, advisor to the Africa Group of Negotiators (AGN) and award-winning actress, May El Gheity alongside a performance by multi-award winning artist Bey T.
“The Climate Speaks Through Us” Screening
This short film screening and exhibition titled “The Climate Speaks Through Us”, was hosted at the Zawya Cinema in Cairo, Egypt’s first independent cinema, to explore green growth opportunities for African youth, specifically in the MENA region. The target demographic included youth aged 18-30, climate stakeholders, and vulnerable communities, including a Sudanese refugee community in Egypt. The We!Are Unmuted photographic exhibition served as a unique catalyst for discussions amongst an Egyptian audience, highlighting a sentiment that the MENA region and its climate impacts are sometimes overlooked in the broader African discourse.
